Heart of Yorkshire Education Group: Building Quality Capacity with the FEA-I KnowledgeFlow Quality Assistant

FEA-I

A key part of FEA-I’s approach to supporting AI strategy is ensuring the right champion is in place—someone who understands both the tool and the organisation and can drive change from within. Heart of Yorkshire Education Group demonstrates what this looks like in practice.

The college adopted the FEA-I Knowledge Flow Quality Assistant to transform and streamline quality improvement and assurance processes across the organisation. The tool uses AI-powered analytics to identify trends and patterns in data that would otherwise be missed, enabling leaders to concentrate on enhancing educational quality rather than getting bogged down by data analytics and report writing. Andrea Quantrill, Director of Quality and High Performance, is a great example of what effective championing looks like. Andrea led a structured rollout that included prompt guides and workshops for Heads of Curriculum, building their capacity and confidence to use the tool independently.

This was more a way to drive the use of the tool, building confidence with it. Rather than central quality reviewing SAR drafts and asking heads to “think more about this section,” the team now guides them to run evidence back through the assistant’s pre-populated and tested analysis buttons, prompting further analysis themselves. Heads of Curriculum submit stronger, more insightful drafts because they’ve already interrogated the data; central quality steps in only at validation, where professional judgement matters most.

The ease and speed of the analytics has also enabled more frequent quality reviews beyond SAR season: heads now compare in-year risk registers and student voice data to surface what actually contributed to stronger results. This was part of the SAR but is also a continued activity around student voice data, and heads refine their Quality Improvement Plans in real time as new evidence emerges, driving faster quality improvements throughout the year
